BLUE Zines--Going Old School

My creative writing classes are making Zines (mini/handmade magazines). We just completed a short story writing unit and I wanted to do something a little bit off the grid. How would they work with image and text?

My friend suggested a one-word theme to start--blue. I wondered how the students would react to an assignment that prohibited computer and gave very few criteria other than, "Here's a word--blue, and some scissors, glue, magazines and paper. Go for it!"

They went for it. Check back for more featured pictures tomorrow. And, I can't wait to see what the students create for their "Personal Quest" Zines--they're making those in tandem with our study of Paul Coelho's The Alchemist.
